Porto, Foro Ulpiano, Ospedale Maggiore, Campo San Giacomo, Il Giulia: five areas of Trieste with a high residential and tourist flow where CAME has provided the innovations of its automations for the access control and parking management of six important covered and underground parking lots managed by SABA ITALIA, which together total as many as 3,344 parking spaces and where an average of between 200 and 500 people per day transit through them.
Particularly, the parking lot in Piazza della Libertà near the harbor (cast out of a former cargo silo); as well as being the second largest of the 6 at 792 total spaces, it holds high strategic importance as it is located near the embarkation of the main cruise lines: it is therefore an excellent parking solution for tourists who can leave their cars under cover in the temporary parking lots for the duration of their trip. On the basement level is the parking lot that houses the station and bus stop for Trieste’s regular buses and coaches, as well as some 12 stalls for tourist buses on the ground floor, an excellent solution for residents who use public transport and tourists who can wait in a covered and sheltered area through all kinds of weather conditions. Private parking spaces (e.g., with stalls) are also provided on the upper floors for residents of the area; access is managed for entry and exit by terminals with QR codes and subscriber cards, as well as automatic barriers. The same system has been adopted for the parking lots at Foro Ulpiano, II Giulia and San Giacomo.
Equally strategic for urban mobility are the Foro Ulpiano parking lot (594 spaces), which is located across from the Palace of Justice, with a multi-storey underground structure useful for both court users and any occasional users and with the advantage of being only a 10-minute walk from the city’s train station and port; and the underground parking lot at the Ospedale Maggiore (654 spaces) in the city center, ideal for anyone wishing to park their car in a safe environment, within walking distance of the clinic and the University of Trieste.
More broadly, the 6 parking lots have been equipped with a comprehensive CAME management system known as called PKE, which also covers the door opener system for pedestrian access, entering or exiting restricted areas, ensuring more efficient management of the business, as well as improving security and preventing unauthorised users from entering. Innovative brushless barriers (Gard PX) have also been adopted for all access and exit slopes, and many slopes are equipped with a TELEPASS system. The entry units are all equipped with front QR reader and contactless reader for subscriber cards, as well as automated payment stations with high-brightness displays and terminals for both POS and cash payments. Lastly, all parking lots are equipped with LPR systems (entry and exit license plate reading cameras) for enhanced security and for the best customer experience.
“Not only technology and interoperability, but also adaptability and solutions tailored to specific needs: these are also the challenges decreed by the urban mobility market ,” states Paolo Marini, General Manager of CAME Italia, “That’s why in Trieste we have implemented all the experience of the team Progetto Spazi by CAME Italia and worked closely with SABA Italia, our longstanding partner, to create a parking ecosystem capable of handling the demands of residents and the community in a timely manner.”
