Originally built in the 1960s, these high-rise flats replaced sub-standard terraced housing in an era that was known for ‘slum clearance’ and massive local authority house building programmes. The three landmark tower blocks in the historic town of Flint, in North Wales, received a major upgrade programme to improve the security of their external areas, communal doors, and door entry systems, which has been carried out by three Secured by Design (SBD) member companies.
CAME KMS and CAME Entrotec joined forces with Bamford Doors to manufacture and install a bespoke door entry solution which would significantly update and improve security for over 270 flats. Once plans had been finalised, this large retrofit project got underway in December 2018.
All products supplied and installed were approved by SBD’s robust physical security standards. This providing a degree of infrastructural integrity which is often desirable in areas with threats of vandalism or anti-social behaviour. Moreover, CAME KMS’ web-based solution, Simplekey Web, was the first access control system to be recognised by the SBD programme.
Upon project completion the entire development has transformed and now these high-rise flats offer an attractive, secure and pleasant living area. This subsequently nullifying the risk of anti-social behaviour in this area, which was the primary objective of this development project.
Helen Phillips, Sales and Marketing Director, CAME KMS and CAME Entrotec, stated, “It is an excellent project for all parties and the transformation has been incredible. We work on numerous projects, and we take great satisfaction in providing solutions that improve the safety of buildings for lots of people, and this project in North Wales was no different.”
Alexis Smith, Managing Director, Bamford Doors, said: “The transformation we have made to the blocks in Flint is amazing. We hope the customers of Flintshire County Council feel more safe and secure in their homes.”
