Background

Covering one of the most densely populated areas of the country, London Borough of Lambeth Council includes many of the popular areas of South West London including Brixton, Clapham and Streatham. With a population of over a third of a million people the pressure on the council to deliver services is significant. A key part of these services is the provision of housing across the region.

The Challenge

Historically, Lambeth Council has used a number of different communal door access control solutions for their multi dwelling buildings including conventional key, standalone and early conventional PC based access control systems. The task of managing these was difficult and very time consuming, leading to caretakers (staff members) not administering fobs correctly, including not deleting fobs that should have been, resulting in systems becoming overloaded.

This presented a significant challenge to the council, how to ensure residents were provided access which at the same time was easily administered by the council staff.

The Solution

CAME KMS SimpleKey was chosen by the council, primarily as the administration system SimpleKey Web is a cloud-based platform that could manage all of their properties from those with 5 or 6 flats to multi-story blocks. This gave Lambeth Council one single communal door access control solution, which is easy to install, even into existing door entry panels and provided housing staff administrators easy access to manage the system.

The Results

Lambeth Council began rolling it out across their multi dwelling buildings and by the end of April 2021, SimpleKey Web was controlling access in over 80 buildings with a further 8 multi dwelling buildings to be rolled out imminently. SimpleKey Web allows the housing administrators to add and delete fobs instantly and provides them with fob usage reporting all helping to ensure residents safety.

In addition, when the old systems are being upgraded to SimpleKey, this has had no impact on the residents.
