The Digital Notice Controller (DNC) has been shortlisted in the “Most Innovative Product” category. The DNC is an innovative noticeboard solution designed to meet the demands of the multi-user residencies and the social housing sector. A combination of hardware and software and powered by SimpleKey Web cloud-based software, trusted in over 18,000 UK housing blocks.

Designed and developed in Britain, the DNC enables building owners, housing associations and local authorities to improve resident experience and satisfaction and help increase resident engagement.

The UK Housing Ombudsman states poor communication was an issue in 68% of cases reviewed in 2023 (https://www.housing-ombudsman.org.uk/centre-for-learning/key-topics/attitudes-respect-and-rights/). The legislative demands for multi-dwelling property owners and social housing providers, not least the Building Safety Act 2022, put an onus on improving communication, not only because this is good for residents, but also as a legal duty for Accountable People.

Resident communication should ideally be delivered through multiple channels and the DNC opens a unique messaging channel, that can ensure residents have access to information they need swiftly, especially for H&S.

The improvements of communication enabled by the DNC include:

🔹 Improve resident well-being, with timely updates about the latest building information
🔹 Empower residents, with notices about building and maintenance works
🔹 Reduce stress and uncertainty about changes to contracts or terms
🔹 Increase resident satisfaction by keeping everyone up to date
🔹 Reduce complaints with timely information about on-going repairs
🔹 Create a more positive working environment for service staff
🔹 Retain residents thanks to great communication
🔹 Address concerns quickly
🔹 Solicit feedback by linking to a survey
🔹 Build trust by providing fast, open information to residents

DNC messages can be inclusive, message screens can be displayed in multiple languages or use simple imagery to convey information.

DNC screens can be placed in prominent positions, they can be difficult to ignore when set opposite the entrance or on multiple floors by lifts and stairwells.

Housing providers are already experiencing the benefits of the DNC controller in their housing blocks, including Flintshire County Council, Cardiff City, Cadwyn Housing Association, Derby Homes and Warwick District Council.

As the DNC can be used on any screen with a HDMI input, end-users have been able use existing screens already installed in their blocks, as well as fit new devices to their properties. The feedback from partners has been overwhelmingly positive.
